Katarina Witt began ice skating when she was five. Soon, her talents became apparent and she was accepted into Karl-Marx-Stadt's school for special needs. Here she first had a conversation with her trainer Jutta M ller. Witt was able to make her mark in the second position she placed in the 1982 World Championships, held in Copenhagen. Following that, she started dominating the sport with the grace and elegance she displayed. Olympic Erfolg at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for figure skating in women's following a heatedly-contested competition. The following year she took home an even tighter contest. While she was unable to win the free-skating contest, gold medal was awarded to her performances on the mandatory figures and the program in short form. Witt became the women's first repeated winner of figure skating following Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt, who was a star in film as an actor, returned to figure skating to compete at Lillehammer Winter Games 1994. She placed seventh but enchanted the crowd even though she didn't win a medal. It was in 1995 that Witt got inducted into World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
